ADMISSION GUIDE (2006-2007)

 

(Information on admission to level 1, semester 1 of undergraduate courses offered by different Faculties for the academic year 2007)

3.  Eligibility for application

A candidate eligible to apply for admission into Level 1, Semester 1 of undergraduate studies as offered by   six faculties of BAU for the year 2007 must have passed SSC (science group) or equivalent examination in 2003 or 2004 and HSC (science group) or equivalent examination in 2005 or 2006 with a total of 6.5 GPA excluding the 4th subject, and with at least 3 GPA in both SSC and HSC examinations excluding the fourth subject. Besides, he/she must have Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and English as combination of  subjects at HSC level and has to obtain minimum 2.0 grade point in each of the above subjects in the HSC final examination.

 

4. Procedures of collecting forms and submitting application

    01. The admission form contains two pages and it has to be downloaded from BAU website www.bau.edu.bd and be printed in two separate pages on 80 gram white offset paper of 8.25˛´14˛ size. It may be mentioned that clear and quality photocopy of admission form in two separate sheets in proper size will also be accepted. The applicant has to submit the admission form, duly filled in by his/her own handwriting, along with necessary documents and it must accompany a bank draft of Tk. 450/= (Four hundred and fifty) only in favour of “Treasurer, Bangladesh Agricultural University” encashable in any branch of scheduled banks at Mymensingh town.

   02.   The application form duly filled in must be submitted  to the office of “The Convenor, Committee for Admission Test and Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh” within 4:30 PM on 20 December 2006 at the latest. The application will also be accepted if it is sent by postal mail or through courier. However, it must be attached with necessary documents, bank draft and a blank envelope (to be pasted with postal stamp of Tk 4.00 only) with postal address, which will be used for returning back the receipt of submission of form to the candidate.

   03.     The duly filled in application form for admission shall have to be attached with the following documents each attested by a first class gazetted officer -

(a)  Attested copy of the original grade-sheets (academic transcripts) of SSC and HSC examinations or equivalent examinations as issued by the relevant Board of Exams.

(b) Attested copy of the testimonials from the Head of the institutes last attended at SSC and HSC levels.

(c)  Recently taken three stamp-sized photos (to be pasted firmly in the appropriate places of the admission form),

(d) A candidate has to fill up in legible hand writing  in specific blank spaces of both the admit cards for written admission test and mailing card (including pasting of a postal stamp of Taka 4/- only) as contained in the second page of admission form,

(e) A candidate shall have to furnish an undertaking to the effect that the facts and information given in the application form are true and accurate, and he/she shall abide by the rules and regulations of the university in connection with students’ discipline that are currently in force or those may be laid down in future. The candidate has to put his/her signature to this effect on the appropriate space of the form,

(f) Any application form for admission other than the prescribed one as available in BAU website, or the ones that are irregular, incomplete or illegible, or contain wrong information shall automatically be cancelled.

 

5.  Procedure of application for the reserved seats

i) In case of reserved seats, the tribal/non-tribal candidates from Chittagong Hill Tracts region and those from other districts of the country outside the CHT region shall have to attach with their applications a copy of permanent residency certificate signed by Deputy Commissioners of respective districts.

ii) The progeny of freedom fighters must submit a copy of freedom fighter certificate of parents as issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, GOB along with the application form. A candidate under this quota shall have to attach a separate sheet containing the address of his/her parents during the great war of liberation and the present address, written legibly with the signature of candidate.

iii) A candidate applying against reserved seats must tick appropriate box of the quota ( Tribal/non-tribal: CHT region; Tribal: other districts outside CHT region; Progeny of freedom fighters) as mentioned in the admission form. There is no scope for considering any objections or request on this matter afterwards.

 

6. Last date of receiving forms

The application form for admission must be submitted directly to the office of “The Convenor, Committee for Admission Test and Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh” by 4:30 PM on 20 December 2006 at the latest.

 

7.  Selection of candidates for the Written Admission Test

The preliminary selection will be done on the basis of GPA obtained in the SSC and HSC (or equivalent) examinations of those candidates who meet the conditions as stated in subtitles 3 to 6 above. A total of 6500 candidates for general seats and a maximum of 390 candidates for reserved seats, following a merit list to be prepared on the basis of GPAs obtained, will be called for to sit the Written Admission Test. This number may, however, be changed as and when necessary.

In both the cases, all candidates having the same GPA with that of the candidates of last position in order of merit will get the opportunity to sit for the written admission test.

 

8. Admit Card

Admit cards for the written admission test will be sent through postal mail directly to all candidates selected in order of merit following the process as stated in subtitle 7 above. Besides, a list of selected candidates for admission test will also be available in BAU website. If any one fails to receive the admit card in due time or one looses it after its receipt for reasons beyond control, he/she must collect a duplicate admit card from the office of the Convenor, Committee for Admission Test positively on the earlier day of the scheduled test within 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM along with one attested stamp sized photo and a photocopy of HSC grade sheets (academic transcripts). No candidate shall be allowed to sit the written admission test without an admit card.

 

9. Rules on written admission test

i) A centrally coordinated written admission test at the BAU campus will be held on Saturday, 13 January 2007 between 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.

ii) The question paper of written admission test will have MCQs on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, each having same weightage, following HSC curricula. Methods of answering MCQs have been given separately in subtitle 19.

iii) Candidates for reserved seats have to sit for the same written admission test.

 

10.  Merit Score

i)  Merit score shall be determined by a total of 300 points. Results of written admission test will carry 200 points, while those of SSC and HSC examinations will carry 40 and 60 points respectively.

ii) In order to determine the final merit score, eight times of GPA of SSC and twelve times of GPA of HSC examinations (excluding GP obtained in the fourth subject in both the cases) will be added to the marks obtained in written admission test.

iii) For candidates applying for reserved seats, two separate lists - the final list and the waiting list shall be prepared in order of merit following the same method as stated above.

iv) The candidates enlisted in final list and waiting list have to appear in person before an interview board and a board for medical check-up on scheduled date.

v) Results of those candidates who obtained less than 40 marks in the written admission test will not be prepared.

vi) Results of written admission test will be published on Thursday, 18 January 2007.

vii) Results of written admission test along with detailed admission schedule will be published in specific national dailies and BAU website in the form of public notice.

 

11.  Medical check-up

Prior to admission, all the selected candidates have to undergo a thorough medical check-up to be conducted by the medical officers of the Health Centre, BAU. Any candidate proven to be unfit from medical point of view, shall be treated as ineligible for admission. It may be mentioned that medical check-up has to be done before the interview is taken. Each candidate is required to collect a prescribed form of medical check-up by paying an amount of Taka 150.00 (one hundred fifty) only at the office of Treasurer, BAU.

 

12. Option for selection of Faculty and Degree

Each of the enlisted candidates has to collect a prescribed option form for selection of faculty and degree from the office of the Convenor, Council of Deans and has to submit it giving option in order of priority for all of the Faculties and degree-courses, which cannot be changed under any circumstances.

 

13.  Interview Board

The candidates who succeed in passing the written admission test, and medical check-up shall have to, in order of merit, appear in person before an interview board arranged by the Committee for Admission Test. Be it mentioned that the interview will have no marks allotted. Those who will remain absent from this interview, shall not be considered for admission.

At the time of interview each candidate has to show the following documents :

i) The original grade-sheets (academic transcripts) of both SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations, and

ii) The testimonial issued by the Head of the institution, last attended.

 

14.  Admission of selected candidates

i) Admission of selected candidates from final list and waiting list to different faculties will be conducted centrally purely on the basis of merit and in accordance with faculty option priorities, on dates to be announced in national dailies and BAU website through a public notice on the results of admission test. The selected candidates has to collect the earlier submitted application form from the office of the Convenor, Committee for Admission Test and has to get it scrutinized by the Dean of the faculty concerned, the Proctor and the Provost of relevant hall of students’ residence. When its accuracy of information is certified by the concerned Dean, Proctor, Provost and Registrar, he/she has got to be admitted by paying necessary fees at the Account Section of BAU.

ii) A list of faculty-wise vacant seats will be announced immediately after completion of admitting selected candidates from final list on the scheduled date.

iii)  The newly admitted students may avail of the opportunity of auto-migration on the basis of given option if any seats are lying vacant in the specific faculty after completion of admission from the final merit list and before admitting students from the first waiting list.

iv) If there remains any seat vacant in a specific faculty even after completion of admission from the first waiting list, auto-migration for intending students on the basis of their given option may take place, but obviously before the commencement of admission from the second waiting list. This has to be completed at least seven days ahead of beginning of classes, after which no auto-migration or admission will ever take place.

v) Each selected candidate must submit the original copies of SSC and HSC grade-sheets (academic transcripts) to the office of Registrar at the time of admission.

 

15.  Admission and related fees

The finally selected candidates are required to pay the following admission and related fees to the Account Section and other offices to get themselves admitted as resident or non-resident students to Level-1, Semester-1 of the undergraduate studies of the university.

16.  Accuracy of information

If any information as furnished by a candidate is found false or incorrect, or if it is found that he/she does not have minimum qualifications for admission, then his/her admittance to written test or the written admission test shall stand cancelled.

 

17.  Special information

i) No TA or DA will be provided to any candidate for appearing at written admission test.

ii) The university does not guarantee the admitted students for immediate accommodation in the students’ halls of residence.

iii) The selected candidate must submit 6 extra copies of passport-sized photographs, duly attested.

iv) The university authorities do not have any responsibility to provide any job security to its students after completion of their graduation.

v) All public notices related to admission will be available in BAU website  and will also be published in the Dainik Ittefaq/ the Dainik Amar Desh/ the Dainik Dinkal/ the Daily Bangladesh Observer in the form of advertisement.

vi) The equivalence of standard/grade/marks etc. obtained in SSC or HSC or equivalent examinations shall be determined by ADCOM.

vii) If any newly admitted student fails to attend classes within two weeks of commencement, his/her admission will automatically be cancelled.

 

18. On admission rule

The University Authorities or the ADCOM reserve the right to make any amendment, addition or deletion of any rules related to admission as and when necessary.

19.  About answer sheet and  MCQs

i)   The question paper of admission test will be prepared with MCQs. Each examinee will be supplied with a set of printed question paper and a separate answer sheet.

ii)  None is going to be supplied with any extra answer sheet whatever the circumstances may be.

iii) The question paper will have 200 questions, each followed by a set of four possible answers including the correct one. The examinee has to identify the right answer in the question paper and cover the right circle against that answer with a black-pointed ball pen in the answer sheet.

iv)  The duration of written test is two hours.

v)  Both the question paper and the answer sheet must be returned back to Hall Invigilator after the examination is over.

vi)  Any writing on any part of the answer sheet is strictly prohibited other than covering the specific circles and writing only on the specific spaces as directed. When covering a circle, special care has to be taken to cover it completely with a black pointed ball pen in a manner that no scratches are seen outside the circle. Unwanted scratches may invalidate the answer as the computer controlled OMR machine will fail to read it properly. Therefore, the answer sheet needs to be handled with utmost care, and it must not be folded, twisted or disfigured in any way.

vii) An examinee has to write down his/her name, roll number, signature and date in the appropriate spaces of answer sheet with a black pointed ball pen.

viii) The examinee must carry the admit card and a black pointed ball pen and, if necessary, can have a scientific calculator.

ix) The examinee has to fill in the roll number, name, set code of question paper, i.e. a, b, c or d and give his/her signature and date in own handwriting in the left-hand side of answer sheet.

x) The roll number shall have to be shown in the right-hand side of answer sheet. The answer sheet shall automatically be cancelled if the machine fails to identify the roll number properly.

 

20.  Admission of foreign students

i) In the case of foreign nationals, applicants must have completed twelve years of schooling and passed courses equivalent to HSC (science group) of Bangladesh with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology and obtained equivalent GPA as set out in subtitle : 3. An applicant has to produce certified academic transcript showing that he/she has studied and passed courses equivalent to HSC (science group) of Bangladesh having Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and English in his/her curricula. The applicant must apply through respective Missions/Embassies/High Commissions and get the application processed through the Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. On verification of the academic transcripts by the Dean of Faculty concerned, the applicant may be recommended for admission.

ii) The candidate shall have to produce a certificate of proficiency in English language.

iii) Each candidate shall have to submit an authorized health certificate to the effect that he/she is not suffering from any communicable/contagious diseases or such disorders, mental or physical, that may impede his/her curricular activities at this university.

iv) In addition, all other rules and procedures of admission, applicable for national candidates, shall also be applicable to foreign students.
