Major Activities of the Department
The department started functioning with the objectives of developing education, research, training and extension programme for increasing productivity of livestock and poultry by application and practices of the principles of genetics, farm animal genetics resources, animal breeding system, reproduction, artificial insemination and reproductive biotechnology. The research work and extension services related to genetics, breeding, reproduction and artificial insemination are performed through Animal Genetics Laboratory and a well-established Artificial Insemination Center and three Sub-Centers. This department has been conducting short training programme on Animal Reproduction and Artificial Insemination to the members of the government and non-government organizations. Well-trained teachers from home and abroad have been engaged in research on genetics, breeding, reproduction and artificial insemination. Currently, ongoing research programmes are improvement of production characteristics of native chicken and improvement of economic trails of crossbred chicken, genetic characterization of poultry, sheep, goat, cattle and buffalo and in vitro embryo transfer technology.

Major Activities of the Department
The department of Animal Science offer courses on Goat, Sheep, Beef and Draught animal and Buffalo Production and their farming systems, Animal Ecology, Meat Science and Technology, Zoo and Wildlife management, Animal by-products and waste management at the graduate and postgraduate levels. The basic course of Animal Science is also taught to the students of Agriculture, Veterinary and Agriculture Economics faculties. The highly qualified teaching staff of this department are engaged in research on development of small holding livestock production systems, evaluation of feed resources and feeding strategies for ruminants, utilization of animal by-products and meat science with the assistance of international and national donar agencies. Bangladesh Agricultural University Goat and Sheep farm belong to this Department for teaching, demonstration and on-farm research purposes in the field of livestock production and farming systems. The department has laboratories with modern equipments for conducting sophisticated research on ruminant nutrition and feed evaluation, meat science and animal by-products.

Major Activities of the Department
The Department of Animal Nutrition was established with the mandate to develop technology on nutrition and feeding of different classes of livestock. The teachers of the department are trained in different specialized fields of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science and perform their activities by providing knowledge at the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences. There are four laboratories in the department, which provide facilities for analysis of animal feeds and has facilities for in vitro and in situ degradability studies. The department has one field laboratory with facility for rearing livestock and poultry and experimental fodder field for demonstration and experimental purposes.

Major Activities of the Department
The department offers Bachelor and Post Graduate courses on Dairy cattle production, Dairy farm planning & management, Production & preservation of dairy cattle feeds & fodder, Market milk & milk processing, Dairy chemistry, Dairy microbiology, Dairy technology, Dairy manufacture, Quality control of dairy products. An M.S. student has to earn 32 credits in three semesters and a Ph. D. student needs to carry out a specialized topic of research. The Department of Dairy Science has a full-fledged laboratory for demonstration and research on above disciplines, and also a dairy farm with cows & heifers for teaching and research purposes.

Major Activities of the Department
The Department of Poultry Science is putting great contribution towards poultry production in the country. The aim of the Department as teaching, research, training and extension activities for increasing poultry production through development of skilled manpower for sustainable poultry production technology in Bangladesh. The Department of Poultry Science offers courses of poultry nutrition and feeding, broiler and egg production, farm planning and management at the undergraduate level and Postgraduate studies leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Poultry Science. The research, training and extension service are performed mainly through well-equipped Poultry Science laboratory and a Poultry Farm. The above activities of the Department is performed by highly qualified personnel trained at home and abroad.
