MAJOR EVENTS OF BAU

 

1959

The Commission on National Education and The Food and Agriculture Commission recommended for establishment of an Agricultural University in Bangladesh.

1960-61

The committee to develop the scheme for establishment of Bangladesh Agricultural University started its work on 13 October 1960 and finalized and submitted the scheme on 8 June 1961.

1961 (Aug.18)

Ordinance for establishment of BAU (Ordinance No.XXVIII of 1961) was promulgated.

1961 (Sep. 02)

With the appointment of Professor Dr. M.O. Ghani as the first Vice-Chancellor on this day, the University came into existence. The USAID through a contract with the Texas A & M University system provided this new University necessary supports in its initial phase.

1964 (Mar)

Agreement for the first IDA credit was signed between the Government and the World Bank, which provided development grants for BAU.

1966 (Jun)

From the second IDA credit the University received a substantial amount as development grants.

1968 (Mar. 28)

The First Convocation was held.

1972 (Dec. 31)

The Second Convocation was held.

1973 (Feb.13)

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman made the historical announcement of granting class one status for agriculturists in a reception held at BAU campus under the auspices of BAUCSU.

1994 (Jun. 5)

The Third Convocation was held.

1994 (Aug. 18)

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Bangladesh Agricultural University.

1997 (Dec. 20)

The Fourth Convocation was held.

1998 (Jan.14-28)

Memoranda of  (MOU) signed between Bangladesh Agricultural University and three U.S Universities and Colleges, namely, Texas A & M University, Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Brooklyn College and Research Foundation of the City University of New York.

1998 (Apr.18)

The First Special Convocation for conferment of the degree of  D.Sc. (honoris causa) on the Nobel Laureate agricultural scientist Dr. Norman Ernest Borlaug, the Father of 'Green Revolution'.

1998 (May.11)

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Bangladesh Agricultural University and Universiteit Gent of Belgium.

2003 (Jan. 23)

The Fifth convocation was held
