As an integral organ of the University, Graduate Training Institute (GTI) was established in 1976. The primary aim and objectives for establishing this institute are : 1. To provide higher levels induction and in-service training to the personnel working in extension, rural development and research agencies including Government, semi- Government, autonomous and Non-government organizations (NGO’s) 2. To conduct short training courses or workshop for farmers/farm leaders on Planning and execution of Farm enterprises 3. Establish two-way flow of information between the research and extension agencies. 4. To establish liaison between the teachers of the Bangladesh Agricultural University and field personnel for orienting teaching and research in the university according to the field problem; 5. To conduct research on the various aspects of extension and rural development work, such as, administration, supervision, extension methods, leadership, program building, group dynamics, adult education, evaluation, etc. in order to utilize the related information and to design more effective training program; 6. To organize seminars, workshops, conferences, etc. on different aspects of agriculture and rural development as and when necessary. The GTI is a part and parcel of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. The administration and management of the institute is, therefore, consistent with the overall rules and regulations of the University. There is one Director and Professor Dr. M. Tazul Islam, at present the Director working with a limited teaching staff in the institute to operate its training and other related activities. GTI faculty members are mainly responsible for coordination and management of the training courses; while the Teachers from Bangladesh Agricultural University and Resource person from other organizations are invited to conduct the training sessions as per need. There are seven broad fields of training in this institute such as, Crop Science, Animal Science, Fisheries, Agricultural Engineering and Rural Technology, Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, Administration and Personnel Management, Population Education and Agricultural Extension. In each of the aforesaid field, there is provision for one faculty member. At present, there are five Professors, one Associate Professor, one Assistant Professor and two Lecturers at GTI.
